Guernsey’s to Auction Astounding
Pugliese Pop Culture Collection
- From The Gun That Killed Lee Harvey Oswald to The Wicked Witch of the West’s Hat - 850 Legendary Items to Be Sold at Auction March 15 and 16, The Palms Casino Resort
Guernsey’s auction house has announced that the Pugliese Pop Culture Collection, the finest Collection focusing on 20th Century culture ever privately assembled, will be sold at auction on March 15 and 16 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
Approximately 850 of the most extraordinary objects imaginable from the worlds of motion pictures, popular music, magic, television and politics were gathered over several decades by Anthony Pugliese, a man who can be described as a true visionary. Items include the gun that killed Lee Harvey Oswald, the Wicked Witch of the West’s hat, John Lennon’s Abbey Road Suit, and a parasol from “Gone With the Wind,” among other legendary items.
“The Godfather,” “Citizen Kane,” “Rebel Without A Cause,” “The Shining,” “The Maltese Falcon,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “The Ten Commandments,” “Cleopatra,” “Unforgiven,” “National Velvet,” “The Great Gatsby,” “Hud” and “Forrest Gump” are just a small sampling of additional films that are represented in this auction. The objects to be sold are major elements from these movies like Harrison Ford's whip, Christopher Reeve's Superman suit, Elvis' racing duds from “Raceway,” Chaplin's cane, Elizabeth Taylor’s headdress from “Cleopatra” and dress from “National Velvet,” and principal wardrobe items from Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, Orson Welles, Frank Sinatra and James Dean.
If material in the Pugliese Collection was limited to film, its sale would probably be the best motion picture auction held to date. But movies are just a portion of this staggering Collection. The section devoted to magic features many of Houdini's most sensational devices including his straight jacket and escape crates, his traveling show trunk and accompanying billboard, his shackles and handcuffs, as well as his writings.
The section of the Pugliese Collection that focuses on world leaders has many John F. Kennedy treasures including important hand-written documents and several wonderful humidors that stored the President's beloved cigars. There are also many historically significant items relating to the assassination; most importantly the very gun Jack Ruby used to kill Lee Harvey Oswald. Winston Churchill, Herbert Hoover, Thomas Edison and Andy Warhol are additional names related to 20th Century history while Olympic torches from Munich and Berlin add further prestige.
Rivaling the motion picture items are rarities from the world of music. Some of the most sought after items include suits worn by all four Beatles on their first album cover and the document registering their name, The Beatles, in America. Buddy Holly is well represented in the Collection as is Madonna, with sensational items like her "Like A Virgin" wedding dress. Pugliese has many of Elvis' objects, as well as memorabilia from country stars like Tex Ritter and Gene Autry.
Any collection of 20th Century cultural material would be incomplete without items from Television. TV fans will rejoice with the opportunity to bid on dynamic items from I Love Lucy, Dragnet, Batman (the TV series and films, as well), Sonny and Cher, The Untouchables, The Munsters, Bewitched, Happy Days and more.
Anthony Pugliese has been collecting these items from auctions and private sales around the world. These items have been locked in a vault in South Florida for decades. Mr. Pugliese has decided to share his wonderful Collection with the rest of the world as he shifts his interests towards the creation of Destiny, a beautiful, environmentally sensitive, self-contained community he is crafting in central Florida.
Guernsey’s Auction House, known for such extraordinary events as the John F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley, Jerry Garcia, and Mickey Mantle auctions, is conducting the Pugliese Pop Culture Auction which will be held on March 15 and 16 at the Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada. Although all are invited to attend what undoubtedly will be an extraordinary, raucous event, there will be absentee bidding on the internet and telephone. Those interested in learning more about the auction or ordering the catalog should contact Guernsey’s in New York or go to www.guernseys.com. |

HOFBRÄUHAUS LAS VEGAS OFFERS AUTHENTIC GOOD TIMES WITH WEEKEND BEER STEIN HOLDING CONTESTS
Every Friday and Saturday night World Famous Beer Hall invites patrons to take center stage and compete in the time honored stein holding competition!
Weekend visitors to the Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas are in for a special treat with outrageously fun stein holding competitions and deliciously authentic Hofbräu brews.
Every Friday and Saturday night Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas invites its patrons to raise their giant liter steins in honor of competition.
We invite everyone who is 21 years of age and older to take center stage in our beer hall and raise their steins. Participants are given one last chance to take a sip of delicious Hofbräu brew and then are invited to stand in a line facing the crowd. Then in unison everyone must raise their liter stein to start the official competition. The stein must be raised so that it is parallel with the participant’s shoulder blades and must be held in this position for as long as possible.
This is no contest for the weary however; each stein weighs about three pounds! That may sound light but try holding one of these massive steins in place for two minutes and you will feel the burn in your biceps!
The current record for stein holding is 20 minutes and 13 seconds! Typical participants can’t make it past five minutes.
“Think you have what it takes? Then come join us on a Friday or Saturday evening and try your luck” says Stefan Gastager, president of the Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas.” “It’s great fun!”
“See how long you can raise your stein and if by chance you are strong enough to hoist your stein for over 20 minutes and 13 seconds, you will get a FREE stein of beer, t-shirt, and an article written about you in our bi-monthly newsletter.”
In addition to the stein raising contests Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas features live music nightly, delicious food and amazing beers imported fresh from Munich, so be sure to check www.hofbrauhauslasvegas.com often and register for a FREE BEER while you are there!
