“VEGAS THE SHOW” Plays on July 4 Weekend at the Plaza Hotel

Over one year ago, “Vegas The Show”made its debut to a sold-out audience at the Starbright Theater. Because of its educational and entertainment value, the Las Vegas Clark County Library District premiered “Vegas The Show” to the community on Saturday, May 10, 2:00 p.m at the Summerlin Library. Library officials and the community gave a standing ovation to this multi-media presentation.

On Sunday, July 6 at 4:00 p.m the show will be presented in the main showroom at the Plaza Hotel and Casino downtown Las Vegas. The show is a musical and humorous multi-media journey through the history of Las Vegas from the 1930’s to the present day, including a look into the future of Las Vegas in the year 2050.

Show-goers will learn some fascinating details that created the history of Las Vegas while being entertained with great music and performances by some of Las Vegas’ talented entertainers.

The show stars a cast of five that include singer, entertainer and television personality, Tony Sacca, comic impressionist, Tom Wallek, who will humorously narrate and portray famous characters of the past and present while guiding you through the history of Las Vegas with 75-years of video presentation decade by decade. The show also features “Vegas The Show-Girls”- principal singer and dancer of Jubilee- Laurie Caceres, and singer/dancers Nellie Norris and Amanda Kaiser. These talented girls will portray famous Las Vegas entertainers from the past and present.

The show consists of songs that were made famous by legendary Las Vegas entertainers from the past and present including five original Las Vegas songs. Grammy Award Winner, Gary Anderson - Orchestrator / Arranger, skillfully maintained the integrity of the original music of each decade. Mr Anderson is the conductor with musical accompaniment by the Michael T Orchestra.

“American Pie 4th of July” Weekend
 
Celebrate 4th of July weekend as Fremont Street Experience premieres “Don McLean’s American Pie” Viva Vision, July 3-5
Fremont Street Experience premieres “Don McLean’s American Pie” Viva Vision light and sound show with a weekend-long 4th of July celebration free to the public, 4 p.m.-midnight July 3-5 in downtown Las Vegas.
 
The world premiere showing of “Don McLean’s American Pie” Viva Vision show will open to the public on Thursday, July 3 at 9 p.m., including an opening ceremony hosted by Nellis Air Force Base’s Honor Guard and a live performance of the National Anthem.  
The rock ballad “American Pie”, released by Don McLean in 1971, became the anthem for a generation and is still one of the most well-known songs in American musical history.  McLean's most famous composition, "American Pie” is a sprawling, impressionistic ballad inspired partly by the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) in a plane crash in 1959.  The song would popularize the expression "The Day the Music Died" in reference to this event.  McLean has stated that the lyrics are also somewhat autobiographical and present an abstract story of his life from the mid-1950s until the time he wrote the song in the late 1960s.

"American Pie" reached number one on the US Billboard magazine charts for four weeks in 1971, and remains McLean's most successful single release. It is also the longest song to reach #1 with a running time of 8:36.  McLean worked with Fremont Street Experience, providing footage and images for the Viva Vision show.

The Viva Vision schedule for all three nights include shows “American Freedom” at 8:30 and 12 midnight, “Don McLean’s American Pie” at 9:00 and 11:00 p.m. and “A Tribute to Queen” at 10:00 p.m.  “A Tribute to Queen” is also a new Viva Vision light and sound show that premiered in April.
 
Additionally, visual fireworks and patriotic images – set to some of America’s favorite songs – will be shown overhead on Viva Vision throughout the evening, Thursday-Saturday.
 
Live bands will also be a part of the three-day entertainment line-up performing on both the 1st and 3rd Street stages, July 3-5:

• 5-8 p.m. – Tony Marques Band, featuring country jams
• 9-12 p.m. – NiteKings, featuring 50’s, 60’s and 70’s favorites

3rd Street Stage

• 4-7 p.m. – Keel 2, featuring classic rock

THE MIRAGE WELCOMES TIGER CUBS TO
SIEGFRIED & ROY’S SECRET GARDEN AND DOLPHIN HABITAT

The Mirage welcomed its newest addition to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat – six-week-old white, white-striped and golden tiger cubs. The public had its first chance to see these rare and adorable cubs in a special nursery created for them in the Secret Garden Friday, June 13, 2008, which was Siegfried’s 69th birthday.

“I am honored that our tigers will go on exhibit for my birthday and just in time for Father’s Day weekend,” said Siegfried.

Plans to involve Clark County School District students in the naming of a cub will be announced in the form of a contest at a later date.

Hours of operation for Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Last ticket sales are one half hour prior to closing. Hours of operation are subject to change.
