With 14 Grammys to his credit and worldwide acclaim for his
songwriting/producing/arranging/ musical direction and working
with the world’s biggest musical superstars, David Foster,
in town this past weekend as musical director for “Andre
Agassi’s Grand slam For Children,” has been responsible
for the birth and rebirth of a lot of major careers. But for
all the roles he has played where the big names are concerned,
these days he is putting his creative juices into finding
and Foster-ing new talent.
Stiil, while he works with the likes of Josh Groban, Michael
Buble, Renee Olstead, and his new find Peter Cincotti, don’t
expect Foster to cut the cord to celebrities such as Celine
Dion and Andrea Bocelli anytime soon. In fact, Bocelli’s
recent first-ever pop concert, filmed as a PBS special at
Lake Las Vegas, was a direct product of Foster care.
“I have to take the credit on this one,” he laughs,
having been nominated for a 2006 Emmy for Best Musical Direction
for the mega-successful “Andrea Bocelli: Under The Desert
Sky.” “I suggested this PBS special. And when
location came up, I knew that Lake Las Vegas would be perfect.
I had visited Celine, who lives there, and fell in love with
it. Andrea said it best -- he said, ‘It feels like I’m
home.’”
Foster, who acknowledges that he has a great love affair with
Las Vegas and visits all the time for short getaways, has
longtime ties to the city.. He has been the musical director
for Andre Agassi’s “Grand Slam for Children”
charity concerts for the last 10 years and recently produced
a “best of” album from them that came out in Target
stores last December. Celine Dion sings six or seven songs
that Foster wrote or produced in her show at Caesars Palace.
And Lake Las Vegas purchased the rights to “Because
We Believe,” written by Foster, his daughter Amy, and
Bocelli, and adopted it as its theme song.
Would he consider producing a Las Vegas show?
“I’ve kind of danced around a few ideas for myself
that I think that would work,” Foster admits. “It
would revolve around my music that I’ve written or produced
– I think that would be a logical way to go.”
A new career is born?
